On 12 October 2025, the Ghana Community Concerns Group
South Africa (GCCG-SA) successfully hosted an open forum in Durban focusing on
the critical issue of documentation for Ghanaians living in South Africa. The
event brought together community leaders, legal practitioners, church
representatives, and Ghanaian nationals to discuss challenges, solutions, and
the importance of being properly documented.
The forum highlighted the growing need for migrants to
comply with South Africa’s immigration laws, particularly in the face of
increasing enforcement operations. Speakers emphasised that proper
documentation not only ensures legal protection but also provides access to
essential services, employment, and freedom of movement.
Participants were guided through various pathways to
regularisation, including asylum processes, visa renewals, and the importance
of keeping all documents valid and up to date. The GCCG-SA reaffirmed its
commitment to assisting community members by providing information, support,
and advocacy.
The Durban forum ended with a renewed call for unity, compliance with the law, and continuous engagement between Ghanaian nationals and community structures. The event was widely appreciated as a necessary step toward strengthening the safety, dignity, and stability of Ghanaians living in South Africa.
